OF PASTEL CRAYONS AND EARLY MORNINGS
A snippet
Sprawled n one of the velvet couches at Flufflands library, Nani stared at the soft daybreak light that slowly pushed the darkness away.
"Dawn." Nani sighed. "I like dawn. Everything starts back anew." She reached for her wine glass and found it empty; glanced side ways at the bottle. "Ah well pity. No more Reisling." She shimmied and sank further into soft, plush velvet.
A soft cracking sound caught her attention. "Whos there?" Nani tried to elbow her way up.
"Just me, Nani. Just me." A small voice answered back.
"SHerk? What are you doing here at " Nani turned her wrist trying to get a look at her watch.
"Five. Its five oclock. And five oclock is too early. Too early to wake Kal. She told me so. Five is too early. Too early." SHerk repeated it softly to himself like a prayer.
Nani finally up, discovered SHerk sitting on the varnished wood floor a few feet from the huge bay window. Next to him, a medium sized, tattered shoe box.
Nani watched as SHerk carefully opened the box, took out a drawing pad and put it next to him. Then one by one, he took out his pastel crayons.
"Whatre you doing?" Nani raised an eyebrow. This could be very interesting.
"Im gonna try again to catch the sunrise colors Nani. What does it look like? See, I have my sunburst yellow, my yellow ochre, I have a tulip yellow just like the flower; I have a chartreuse yellow thats one with a little bit of green in it ."
Nani dropped to the floor right next to SHerk. "Let me see if you have any pink .. I think a sun rise needs a little pink. Dont you?"
SHerk stopped and closed his eyes. "Humm.. yes.. I can see the pink. Good idea Nani. Lets see, I have pink rose, or deco pink or I know, rosy beige. That would work." SHerk took out all the pastel colors he thought he needed.
"How do you know you have the perfect blend of colors?" Nani asked as she rolled the hot pink crayon in her hand.
"I test it on me." SHerk was pushing away the couch to get a better view.
"Test it on you? How?" Now Nani was more than curious.
SHerk dropped next to Nani gracefully. "Look." He picked up a peacock blue pastel crayon then colored his inner arm. He took a lilac one and blended it with the peacock blue. "See. Perfect."
Nanis eyes narrowed. "Yes. Definitely perfect. I agree. I think Ill try my hand at finding the perfect sun rise color. Let me help you with your shirt, SHerk." Giggles, laughs and kisses followed while both waited for the sun to rise, to begin a new day.
The end
Story notes:
This little piece was inspired by two things.
A wonderful, sensual and grown up movie titled "The Pillow Book" its based on the Japanese poetry of a Japanese madam who wrote her poetry on her lovers skin. This little snippet is inspired by "The Book of the Innocent" part. The poetry will follow at the end.
Second by Skids, a comic anime strip character from Sandra Ks comic strip. Its sooooo cute, you die of cuteness when you read it. Really. Skids like to play with crayons. On walls, on himself, on others. He reminded me a lot of SHerk. It brighten my day when I discovered that comic strip. <bg> Never thought I would fall for an anime comic strip at my age. LOL
*****
The book of the Innocent
This is an innocent book - unused and unread,
An innocent with three hundred milk-white pages, and no illustrations.
The pages are still dusty with a white powder from the manufacturer.
The pages takes sweet - like milk awaiting the spike of pen,
the dirtying ink, and the prying hairs of the brush,
all seeking to invade the intricate spaces of the books virginity.
The binding is tense - sewn up tight,
awaiting a little bending and breaking.
The pages lay flat and crisp - the muscles of the pages sleek.
No unnecessary flesh has been encouraged to run excess by random fingering.
The moistened thumb of the expectant reader has not yet marked the soft tissues of this lean clean smiling volume.
Spread me, and break me open,
for pleasure.
