TREKKING NORTH: A HWS ADVENTURE

***********

This is for Melite and every single one of us suffering from HWS.  Enjoy. Chantal

***********

Melite’s visit at the Herkspital had confirm it. She was in a very acute phase of HWS. Even the possibility of some quality time with Sov did nothing to ease the pain in Melite’s soul. If nothing was done, she would suffer terminal HWS. To date no one had really been this deep in HWS.

Freya had recommended the only option left. A trek north to lessen the impact of HWS. Melite had agreed, it was the only solution. Packing her gear, she was checking each item on her list of equipment. Melite did not want to be stranded, especially with HWS. Not a very bright idea.

"So, knapsack, blankets, rope, matches, soap, towels, hunter’s knife, tooth paste, sun screen, dry rations (just in case, I hate those), The last Viking, good Herk/Kev reading."

Her large leather backpack was nearly full. "Now, clothes, blank jeans, cotton shirts, the bare essential." Melite was really hitching to leave, the sooner the better. "Oh, I almost forgot my dagger and my bow." That’s when she heard a loud bang at her door.

Then Sov growling very loudly "MELITE, OPEN UP" I CAN MAKE YOU BETTER! I’M MUCH BETTER THAN THAT GOODIE TOO SHOES HERK!" Melite did not pay any attention to the blank leather clad demi-god. She got her backpack, weapons and left by the back door. Melite intended to walk toward the mountain. A few minutes later, she saw Kelly zoom by with Sov chained in the back of her car. Melite waved at her and thought "Well, Sov is in for quite a ride." Hearing her stomach growling, Melite reached out in her pocket for a snack. "Yum, strawberry yogurt health bar."

Melite walked straight ahead for a few hours. She stopped at the beginning of the mountain trail. She decided to rest a bit. Lying on the grass, she took out her book and began reading. Soon she was totally involve in the adventure of Rof the Viking and did not see of hear Kull sneaking up on her.

"Still reading that Viking modern scroll, I see." Said Kull letting himself fall next to Melite.

Melite blinked a few times, trying to get focused again. "Oh, King Kull, How strange to meet you here? We are a little far from home." Kull gave Melite a lazy smile. "Well, I heard a rumor that you were going on a trip up North to immerse yourself in Herk’s presence to cure your HWS. I kinda felt cheated. Why didn’t you come to me? I’m sure I can cure what ever bothering you."

During this little speech, Kull’s hand was tracing a path on Melite’s neck, her collarbone, down her arm, finally taking hold of her hand , taking it to his lips and licking each of her finger very slowly.

Melite’s eyes very slowly glazing over and she barely was able to utter: "Oh, I think I’ll set up camp her and continue on tomorrow." Kull gave her a very wide smile.

After a very short night of sleep, Melite was awake before the sunrise. She quickly packed her things. Gazing at the beautiful, gorgeous man still asleep, she sighed and whispered "Thank you, my king. But I have to go north. I need to go north. My survival depends on it." Melite started on the northern trail. After a few yards, she stopped and turned for one last look. " I hope he’s not too upset with me leaving."

Melite walked for hours. Late in the day, she decided to stop near a waterfall she knew. "Man, my feet are burning. I need a good cool dip in the water." Taking her soap, Melite strips and went into the beautiful clear water. She eagerly swan to the waterfall. "Oh my that water feels soooo good." Melite murmured and she began to use her soap.

"May be I can wash you back?" a voice asked.

Melite’s mind raced. She berated herself for letting her defenses down. Slowly she turned around, gave the intruder a cautious smile and said "Well, ordinarily I would be quite happy to have someone wash by back" searching for an escape route she continued " but I’m not traveling south, and well, I’d rather you turned away and left me alone. How’s that?"

Melite really didn’t like to be cornered by Ares, not one bit. She didn’t quite see what her sister amazons saw in him but she respected them and him as long as he did not bother her.

"Really. I don’t think so. I think it’s about time we get better acquainted you and I."

"Oh, I don’t think so. You are not my type. I’m definitely not into Gods who act like toddlers. I really don’t feel like playing mommy to you, maybe to SHerk but not to you."

Ares, a little steam, said in a dangerous tone "Oh, I have ways to make you change your mind… What not afraid are you?"

Instead of being scared Melite had now a wide grin on her face, she giggled and said "No, not one once of fear in this body. I think you should look behind you."

"That’s the oldest trick in all the world. I won’t fall for that. There’s nobody behind me. I admit you surprise me. I thought you would be running away by now… You’ve spoiled my fun, I like the chase but then again I like strong spirit… we are going to have some fun…" Ares started to move toward Melite when a hand grabbed him from behind.

"I really don’t think so brother". Ares was sent flying backward with one strong pull and landed on his bum some 20 feet back. "Not *you*!!! Weren’t you further north?"

"Surprise!" replied Herk.

Standing Ares gave Herk an exasperated glance. "Always where you are not suppose to be, *brother*" Herk gave Ares a "I can’t believe we are going to do this again" look" and said "Fine, if it’s a fight you want, a fight you’ll get."

"Over one of your most die hard amazon, pleaaase. I’ll pass. Not worth the aggravation" replied Ares in a very scornful tone.

When Herk had thrown Ares, Melite seizing the opening had gotten out of the water. She was putting a long white cotton shirt on when she heard the snotty remark. Melite saw red. Big time. "You selfish, no good, pompous haft brain god. I’ll show you, if I’m not worth the aggravation." Melite was fuming. Quickly taking her bow, she strung it and without hesitation she took aim at Ares.

"Melite, don’t do this" cried out Herk now going for the amazon. Melite’s eyes were full of fire. She was really mad and was about to shoot the snotty immortal looking at her with a very amused expression.

"Well, my, my. Look at that. She thinks, she might actually hurt me" Ares laughed and said to Herk " She’s a feisty one, isn’t she?"

Reaching Melite, Herk put his arms around her shoulders, holding her tight. "He’s not *worth* it, Melite." Herk said. Slowly, he lowered down the bow with his left hand. "Let it go. Please." repeated Herk. Finally, Herk turned Melite face to him and repeated again "For me. Let it go." Melite smiled at those big beautiful most incredible blue eyes and answered "For you. I will." Dropping the bow, she slowly put her arms around Herk’s neck and added "but it’s going to cost you!"

"Cost me? I’m afraid I don’t have any dinars on me. Can I offer something else? " Herk had now a devious grin on his very handsome face. "Rabbit, fish… me…" Melite just said " Oh, I think we can work something out…" and kissed the big guy like there was no tomorrow.

The immortal just rolled his eyes and said " He always gets all the fun and most of the good woman." And he disappeared.
